UN Agenda 2030's Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

These 17 Goals build on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals, while including new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other priorities. The goals are interconnected – often the key to success on one will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another.

OECD Programme 'A territorial approach to the SDGs'

Flanders is a pilot in the OECD Programme that emphasizes the role of cities and regions to reach the SDGs or to leav no-one behind. A role that can't be underestimated since 65% of SDG targets need action by these types of local authorities.

Between the 26th and the 29th of November 2018 a Fact Finding Mission was organised in Flanders, as a part of this OECD Programme. The purpose of it was to collect information on how Flanders and its stakeholders implement the Agenda 2030 on sustainable development and how Flanders involves its stakeholders in its policy making.
